The 2018 Fest was set to feature two exceptionally talented literary couples: Esi Edyugan and Steven Price, and Susan Musgrave and Stephen Reid. We were saddened to learn of Stephen’s death just four weeks before the festival, and surprised and humbled at the courage of Susan Musgrave when she decided to honour us all by coming. You can read more about it in our column “Literary Brilliance and Resilience” here >>. Globe and Mail Western Arts Correspondent Marsha Lederman interviewed our guests live on stage, and was herself interviewed at our 100-Mile Opening Gala, where Art Joyce, Rayya Liebich, and Jordan Mounteer read from their work (and were paired with NBC beers). Emerging writers Callum David Pengelly, Whitney Rothwell, and Emma Leslie were also toasted in our Literary Craft Crawl. Our panels Murder at the Festival, Creative Couples, and Risk and Resilience brought out the best and the brightest to hash things out. The 2017 Fest featured visiting authors Joy Kogawa, Lee Maracle, and Fred Stenson, along with Globe and Mail arts correspondent Marsha Lederman and editor/poet Micheline Maylor. Joining them were our home-grown authors Jane Byers, Leesa Dean, Emily Nilsen, and Eileen Delehanty Pearkes, plus some movers-and-shakers in the cultural community who weighed in on panel discussions. Photos by Will Johnson, Natasha Smith, and Anne DeGrace are initialed.
